Lietava Castle is the second biggest ruin in Slovakia, built presumably after the year 1241. Between years 1300 – 1321 the castle is combined with the name of Matúš Čák, later it belonged to the king Zigmund. Because of the property disputes the castle was losing its importance and became gradually wrecked. It is possible to reach the castle following the green tourist pathmark from the village Lietavská Svinná within 30 minutes or you might follow the blue pathmark from the village Lietava. It takes 45 minutes. From Rajecké Teplice there is a footpath following the green line. The length of the journey is approximately 2.5 hours.

The castle of Budatin is a historical and architectural landmark of the town Žilina. In the past it was one of the wooden castles, protected by the river flow and water channel. Thanks to its location on the confluence of the Váh and the Kysuca Rivers it used to be the King´s ”30” Station, where toll was raised from merchants coming from Sliezko/Poland. At the beginning of the 14th century the castle belonged to Matúš Čák, known under the name “The King of the Váh and Tatras”. In the castle there is the world´s rarity – the unique tinker´s museum. It is the only specialized exhibition of its kind in the world. The exhibition in the form of a huge cage displays a large number of written documents, tools and artworks made from wire rod and metal bars.
